Requirement:

The homeowners wanted to update and refurbish their small upstairs bathroom. On the recommendation of a trusted plumber, they asked Potton Designs to come up with an improved layout and design for the room.

Solution:

Brenden Potton identified an opportunity to enlarge the bathroom by knocking down one wall and extending the room into the alcove space of an adjacent bedroom. The bedroom was large enough to accommodate the bathroom extension, which enabled the bathroom to be widened by 800mm.

The new design for the bathroom involved reconfiguring the interior, moving the shower into the extended portion of the room, and repositioning the toilet and sink below the window to make the best use of the space available.

Scope of works:

Potton Designs took care of the entire project, from initial designs through to final fitting out. The work involved first demolishing the blockwork wall between the bathroom and bedroom, and rebuilding it in its new position. The bedroom side of the wall was then replastered and redecorated.

All the bathroom walls were stripped back to brickwork, enabling new plumbing and electrical wiring to be fitted for the entire bathroom. The walls were then replastered and fitted with new wet-room panels, which are an attractive, low-maintenance alternative to tiles.

The floor was fitted with marble-effect vinyl flooring. This high-quality floor covering is water resistant and features a scratch-guard layer, making it particularly hard wearing. Potton Designs fitted a combined toilet and sink vanity unit, with integrated storage to save space within the room.

The room was completed with recessed spotlights to replace the existing single pendant light, creating a neat and contemporary finish.

Outcome:

Potton Designs transformed this small bathroom into a bright, spacious room with a sleek, modern design. The chrome fixtures, glass shower screen and marbled grey interior brighten up the room and add to the feeling of space and light. As well as looking great, the uncluttered interior makes the bathroom easy to clean, while the high-quality materials ensure the room will continue to look fresh and new for many years to come.
